Christmas day can be a magical and wonderful time. In the morning, children rush out into the living room with joyous anticipation of the beautifully wrapped presents under the tree. Later on, the whole family gathers around a plentiful table with tantalizing smells of stuffing, turkey, and rolls. There is a sense of togetherness and comfort that comes from a day like Christmas. Unfortunately, there are families in U.P. that would not get to experience a day like that with out the help of FUN's Community Christmas program.
Going on 6 years, Community Christmas has helped hundreds of families with gifts and a holiday meal. Families Unlimited Network works closely with the UP School District to identify families that could use a bit of help this holiday season. FUN then distributes the names out to participating groups.
This year, we have 9 groups, including the West Pierce Fire Department, Tacoma Narrows Rotary, and a variety of local churches and small groups, to help 150+ families. Those groups each take a different approach in helping the families they receive. Some hold an event that families can come and "shop" for their children's gifts, while others call to get the family's list and then delivers the gifts to the house. Either way, families are overjoyed by the help they are receiving from their community.
To top it all off, each family that participates in Community Christmas receives a basket filled with everything they would need for the perfect holiday meal. FUN spends countless hours collecting donations and creating these meal baskets with the help of local supporters.
Look back here to see how the season finishes out! We'll have pictures and final numbers of families served through all these amazing partners. Until then happy holidays!
