What is The Spot?

The Spot is an after school tutoring program serving 3rd through 7th graders in the University Place School District. Operating since 2000, Spot was designed in response to a felt-need in University Place for quality after school care for students. This highly relational program focuses on improved academic performance while improving your child's social skills.

What’s the daily schedule?

Students begin arriving at Spot around 2:50pm with the last students arriving at 3:30pm. Once all students have arrived, a snack is provided until 4pm. This is a great time for the kids to socialize and caught up with their friends. From 4pm till 5pm the students are with their tutors working on homework and/or receiving additional support in a subject of weakness. From 5pm till 6pm we offer additional tutoring help for those who have not finished their assignments. For the children that have completed their homework, we offer them a variety of enrichment/physical activates. These actives can include, playing a game in the gym, explore the outside playground, art activities, or enjoying board games.

*We do ask that you try and limit the number of times you pick up your child during tutoring hours to decrease distractions for all students.

When is The Spot Open?

The Spot is open during the school year Monday thru Friday 2:30pm till 6pm. We do function on Early Release Days from 12pm till 6pm. We are not open on Half Days when your child is released before 12pm.. Additionally, we are not open when there is no school.

The first day of The Spot is the Monday after the first day of school. For the 2016-2017 school year, the first day of Spot is September 12th 2016. The last day of Spot is the last Friday of the school year. For the 2016-2017 school year the last day of Spot will be June 16th 2017.

A common question is 'Why do you open after school has begun and before it closes?'. This is due to use being a tutoring program and not a childcare facility. Since children have little to no homework the first and last week of school, there is little material for us to cover with them.

Who are The Spot’s Partners?

Spot is proud to partner with the University Place School District to provide transportation from the primary and intermediate schools. We also partner with University Place Presbyterian Church to provide a safe and secure learning environment designed for your children.
