Vision and Purpose

Families Unlimited Network’s strategic plan is to facilitate the networking of faith-based and community-based nonprofits that provide child and family programs to develop a larger cooperative service base focusing on the stabilization and rebuilding of high-risk families. Many of our families continue in crisis mode because much of the social service delivery system is set up for short-term interventions. Without a long-term support network in place, these families "use up" the services they are eligible for without making any lasting progress towards stabilization.

We believe families of all types need support during times of instability.  Our programs are designed to engage families in obtaining food, energy or rent assistance, advocacy support, and after-school tutoring for children in grades 5-7 and move them beyond “bandaging” into more permanent solutions and long-term stability for their families.  Our programs include:

  • Family Services Program including emergency assistance with rent and utilities for families with children living in the 98466 and 98467 zip codes.
  • University Place FISH Food Bank open to all residents of Pierce County.
  • SPOT After School Program:  Available for fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students in the University Place School District.

Families Unlimited Network also sponsors two large events each year:

  • Back-to-School Children’s Fair:  This annual event held in August provides school supplies, backpacks, haircuts, and dental exams to families in need.  We have tremendous volunteer support for this project including administrators from the University Place School District.
  • Community Christmas:  This annual event held in December provides presents and food for families in need.  Unwrapped gifts are displayed in such a way that parents are able to “shop” for gifts for their children.  While parents shop, the children enjoy an art activity.  Volunteers wrap the gifts for the families while the families enjoy refreshments, Christmas music, and fellowship.  As the families leave, they are given a food basket for Christmas dinner.
